TRIP #1 - CHESTERTOWN TO BALTIMORE

Departing from her home port of Chestertown, SULTANA will spend the first three days of this trip exploring the historic and beautiful Chester River. The Chester is home to some of the Chesapeake’s last productive oyster reefs and is a renowned area for the famous Chesapeake blue crab. Expect to be awakened each morning by the sounds of commercial watermen setting their lines, and don’t be surprised if you go to bed to the sounds of hundreds of cownosed rays splashing on the surface of the river. The lower Chester provides excellent room for sailing a large vessel like SULTANA, while the river’s numerous tributaries supply almost endless opportunities for going ashore to swim and explore. Midweek, SULTANA will overnight at an 18th century working farm before setting out across the open Chesapeake towards the Magothy and Patapsco rivers. The trip ends with a sail past Fort McHenry into Baltimore’s famous Inner Harbor.
