THE CHESAPEAKE WATERSHED INITIATIVE An Opportunity for Maryland Students
and Teachers The Chesapeake Watershed Initiative
(CWI) is a project-based educational program engaging students and
teachers in 21st century investigations of watershed concepts using
real-time geospatial technology. Overseen by the National Geographic
Society and supported by a grant from the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), CWI provides dynamic, geographic
learning experiences for students and teachers throughout the Chesapeake
Bay Watershed. The Maryland component of CWI is
being overseen by the Maryland Geographic Alliance, a member of National
Geographic’s Network of Alliances for Geographic Education, and Sultana
Projects, Inc., a Chesapeake-based non-profit that specializes in
