E.E.Moore

Boat Photo

Chestertown, MD

Vessel Description

The E.E.Moore is a 36ft, double ended sharpie gaff schooner as drawn by Howard I. Chapelle (see American Small Sailing Craft) from the lines of boats once used in the halibut fishing industry in the Juan de Fuca Strait in the Pacific Northwest in the 1800's through the 1930's. Her topsides are cedar planked and her bottom is three layers of half inch marine plywood coated with fiberglass and epoxy. Her design was adapted with the addition of a double cabin from a Reuel B. Parker design (The Sharpie Book) and with a bugeye patent stern. Much of her hardware, knees, wheel, blocks, wood, assorted pieces have been collected by Swain over 45 years of boat building and boat scavenging. She was launched 6/23/2012.
