VISITING FLEETS
Among the many boats
assembling for Downrigging Weekend, we are especially pleased to welcome
several fleet or associations of historic, or historically inspired,
wooden boats. Below are some of the fleets you can look forward to
seeing at Downrigging Weekend 2012. Do you belong to a fleet that would
like to participate? Give us a call!

Chesapeake Bay Buyboat
Fleet
Originally
used to haul oysters and other market goods, some of the last of
the Cheapeake’s “buyboats” have been painstakingly restored as
private boats and we expect a good part of the Northern
Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Fleet (yes there is a Southern one) to be
in port for Downrigging Weekend.

Smith Island Crab Skiffs
Come see some
of the coolest little boats on the Chesapeake race and parade on
the Chestertown waterfront. Originally built to dredge crabs in
the waters of Tangier Sound, Smith Island Crab Skiff s have now
been re-fit for racing and feature some proportionately huge
engines! The Crab Skiff s will also be on exhibit on the
waterfront the entire day.

Cocktail Class Racers
Based on the
outboard racer SKUA, an 8-ft plywood skimmer designed in 1939 by
Charles MacGregor, the Cocktail Class Runabout is an economical,
easily constructed and exciting runabout. The Cocktail Class has
a rapidly growing fanbase in the Chesapeake region and we are
thrilled to have some of these boats participating in
Downrigging for the first time.
